We had built the half height wall to fit the kitchen against and on the outside we made shelves that use the space, normally wasted, in the back of the units. It has added quite a lot of storage space which is definitely needed.
We realise that the kitchen took a long time to complete but when you realise that we had to demolish the old bulkhead, lay joists and oak floor, panel the walls, put in electric circuits, panel the ceiling, fit light circuit & lights, fit a cooker hood to roof top mushroom, make the half height walls, put in electric circuits, fit the units, fit the work top, sink, plumb the sink to hot & cold water, fit waste to a lift pump, drill through the hull for the pump outlet to the sea and fit a seacock, fit the oak shelves and oil them, drill and plug all the screw holes. Fit doors & drawer and paint them inside & out. Cut the gas pipe going forward, bend it to fit inside the new wall and plumb it to the cooker, fit the dishwasher and move everything in. Phew, sounds easy :-
We had a last push through December to get the kitchen done for New year and here it is finished, it looks great and more to the point it really works. There is just enough room for 2 people to work together and it is only 1 step from one side to the other. There is plenty of work top area and it works ergonomically. The surround will definitely get leaned on, with drink in hand, when we have the luxury of guests in the boat in future. Still to do is to take away the protective cardboard on the floor and fit hinges & handle to the hatch in the floor to reveal the bilges (beer store). The galley looks quite busy, but does have a lot in it and it is all to hand, happy days.
