Woodbridge boatyard made a new wheelhouse roof for us in 2021 and fitted it one cold December morning. It was to be insulated, draft proof and strong enough for solar panels. The old roof was 6 panels, easily removed for going under bridges and we are doing that in the UK. It transformed the wheelhouse into a useable room, even at Christmas.
We had 2.4kwh of solar panels fitted by a marine electrical engineer and they immediately started producing power, monitored on an App.
New LiFePo4 batteries were fitted in 2023 and the system was then configured and monitored via the Victron VRM, and displayed by an App on any tablet. We are still connected to mains shore power but use very little when there is sunshine. When the sun sets we run on the batteries and in the morning they charge up again.
