We returned to Waterdog for August and got straight into fitting the new roof tarp which had been a year in planning and ordering. With the new colour we hoped to keep cooler in summer. The old red tarp was not only too hot to touch in the mid summer sun, but the UV had damaged the PVC so that it had all gone sticky and then washed off. We had to take off all the skylight wooden surrounds, clean them of old sealant and refit them. Take off all the mushroom vents and roof fan, clean them and reseal them. Cutting the tarp for all these roof fittings involved measuring, then measuring again, marking and then measuring one more time :-). It took the best part of 5 days and it started to rain as we screwed the last skylight surround back down!

It is all held down with wooden wedges around the coaming side which is in keeping with the original boarded and tarped cargo hold. I don’t think they had a smart ivory coloured tarp in the working days though. Waterdog looked very smart at the end, we just need the last 2 skylight covers to finish the job.

The edges held with wedges.
