Three hard months - no wheelhouse, living room or roof

Old living room

After destroying the wheelhouse and galley on the top deck the boat yard turned their attention to our lounge down below. They must have had access to very cheap wood in the 70s because there was layer upon layer of poorly prepared timber. Very hard work to rip out.

The black tube is our electrics and heating pipes from the engine room aft and our living quarters forward of the bulkhead hidden under the red tarp. The pipes and wires are protected in plastic conduit rescued after being thrown out from a local roadworks . The green pole and triangular wooden steps are all that is left of the spiral staircase that everyone else seemed to love and we hated.

There were 4 sets of the triple rectangular windows in the hull, just above the waterline. During this work they were all cut out and replaced with steel plate, which was overlapped to immitate rivetted iron plates. We stopped short of having pretend rivet heads welded on like some of the modern barges do.
